Setting the new standard for South Lanarkshire Basketball

Four young Colliers have been selected to play for Scotland after continuing to impress their coaches and national coaches in their games, the future Starz programme and national team trials.

Carla Crowther from Hamilton has been selected to play for the under 13s squad who prepare to travel to the TIM Pirineus Tournament in Andorra taking place from the 1st to the 3rd May 2015.

Carla’s Colliers coach Ross Hutton commented that:  “I was delighted when I heard that Carla had been selected again to represent Scotland.”

“Carla has had a successful year in both the U14 WRDL and the U16 division two National League where the team got to the final of the play-offs against the odds only to lose out to Stirling.

“Carla was a huge part of that success and to finish 3rd in the U14 WRDL is a massive improvement on the 7th place they managed the year before.

“Carla has featured in almost every U18 game for the Colliers too this season and held her own against girls 5 years older.

“Carla was such a stand out at the Scotland trials and she was also selected for the U14 National team.”

We asked Carla some questions about her selection here’s what she had to say:

“It feels awesome to be chosen for Scotland again, I think I have improved because I work harder every single year and I like to pretend that every game and training is my last so that I work even harder.

“My ambitions for basketball is to play in America for proper teams and around the world, it is my dream job is to become a basketball player.

“I have 2 role models, Brittney Grainger & Michael Jordan, I like them because they are really good and I try to copy their movies and put them into training and games because training is improvement for games and they also have a great attitude to basketball even though Michael Jordan doesn't play anymore I still like him.

“My favourite moments in basketball so far are when I got MVP award and getting chosen for Scotland 3 times and when my team came 2nd in the finals.

“BASKETBALL IS MY LIFE I LOVE IT SO MUCH, IT IS AWESOME!!!!”
