Anderson Cup Round 2

30th November 2014

After a by in the first round of the Anderson Cup the Colliers faced another East Kilbride based team Calderglen Spartans in the second round.

The game was instantly controlled by the Colliers from the jump ball, seeing 5 out of the 6 Colliers make there way onto the score sheet in the first quarter.

Michael Lynn did a great job dominating the post with 12 first quarter points followed with great shooting from Stephen Hamilton. The Spartans showed signs of closing the gap however two back-to-back three point shots from Graham Hunter gave the Colliers back the momentum finishing the quarter 29-12.

The second quarter saw a more sluggish defensive approach from the Colliers in which the Spartans capitalised on as they did a great job offensively only losing the second quarter by 3 points. Darren Sharp did a fantastic job rebounding presenting the Colliers with second attempts offensively as well as great passing from Jay Runga giving the Colliers the edge finishing the half leading 45-25.

The Spartans came out determined in the second half, which led to a very competitive quarter with Michael Lynn, also side lined due to foul trouble. Callum Armour also remained consistent showing his potential offensively getting to the basket.

In the fourth the Spartans fought their way back into the game looking to make a come back however as the Colliers stepped up on defence and late quarter scoring from Graham Hunter and Darren Sharp they secured the win.

The Colliers will face Glasgow Storm in the quarterfinals in February who they played in last year's Anderson Cup final.

Michael Lynn top scored the game with 24 points despite missing most of the second half, followed by Darren Sharp with 15, Graham Hunter with 14, Stephen Hamilton with 11, Callum Armour with 10 and Jay Runga also added 8 points.

Team Captain Jay Runga commented: "it was a good team performance, we are still growing as a team and for us it's about improving one thing at a time. We dominated inside and moved the ball really well. Wednesday's game coming will be a tough one but we're looking forward to the challenge.”
