Anderson Cup Success for the Division 1

November 11th, 2015 - The Colliers took to the floor at the Alistair McCoist Complex in East Kilbride on Wednesday night to face the Renfrew Rocks in the second round of the Strathclyde Anderson Cup after a bye in the first round.

Despite missing two starters (Chris Davidson who was at hospital to welcome his son Joshua into the world and Alex Dobbie was on a flight back from London for the second half) the Colliers came out in control of the game from the start.

The first quarter saw great scoring on the break from Aarron Mitchinson and Ross Rankin followed by Graham Hunter and Mike Lynn for his first game back of the season finishing the first quarter up 20-15.

In the second it was much of the same seeing more of the Colliers make it to the score sheet however the Rocks still hung on finishing the half 34-27 to the Colliers.

In the second half the Colliers stepped up defensively and got out and ran the floor seeing success from fast break opportunities.

All Colliers players got the chance to get in the game which led to a big 3-pointer by Jed Hawksworth.

The Colliers finished off the game seeing most starters on the side line as the younger players brought the cup win home.

The Colliers will now face either Oatlands or East Kilbride based Calderglen Spartans in the quarter finals.

Graham Hunter top scored with 21 points, followed by Ross Rankin with 14 and Jay Runga Added 10.

FINAL SCORE:   SL Colliers 64 – Renfrew Rocks 48

Player/Assistant Coach Ross Rankin commented: “I thought Renfrew where a stronger team than we anticipated, but regardless we stuck together and found each other for open shots.”

The Div 1 Men’s next game will take place on the 18th of November against Glasgow City at the Alistair McCoist Complex, 8:15pm tip off.
