Awards for All Scotland funding
South Lanarkshire Colliers Basketball Club was recently awarded £9,194 from Awards for All Scotland to assist with the overall development of the club. The funding secured offers support for the clubs youth development to senior level contributing to the Awards for All outcome of ‘people and communities are healthier.’
The funding boost will allow the Colliers to purchase new basketballs, a scoreboard & shot clock, table officiating equipment, team uniforms, training equipment, storage cages for basketball and hall hire payment.
With so many young people in the community playing basketball in South Lanarkshire on a weekly basis the formation and development of the Colliers was an essential ‘next step’ in the region. The funding has contributed to several teams being formed and on the way to developing one of the best clubs in Scotland.
Club Development Officer Ross Hutton commented: “The club has already broke into the top ten list within Scottish Basketball for total number of members and can boast having 5 international players in the U12 teams and senior our men finished runner up in the SLBA division 1 and Anderson Cup. These are fantastic outcomes that were not in our initial plans but we can clearly see the benefit that the financial assistance from ‘Awards For All’ has had in so many different areas.”
