Awards Night 2015

The second Colliers annual awards night took place at the Blantyre Miners Welfare on Saturday the 13th of June with a full capacity of 180 people attending.

Awards were presented to players and volunteers to celebrate their success and to recognise everyone involved with the club. The number of club participants has increased since last year and now have boys and girls teams from U10 all the way up to senior level.

Chairman, Graham Hunter, opened the event and welcomed everyone and thanked everybody for attending before presenting the first awards to the senior men division 1 team.

The awards presented to players were, MVP, Defensive player of the year and Most improved. The Collier of the Year award (COTY) went to Alyson Duncan for her overall assistance with the club. Alyson carried out more table official duties than anyone else this season and was always on hand to help out wherever required (picking up players, picking up and dropping off referees and helping out with the awards night).

Each coach spoke about how their team performed over the last season and announced their awards.

Elaine Paterson was presented with a bottle of wine for her efforts collecting raffle prizes for the awards night and making sure they were presented beautifully on the night.

We would like to thank all the players, parents and family members for helping make our club what it is today and for coming along to show their support. We really appreciate it and look forward to another terrific season of basketball at the Colliers.

Club Development Officer Ross Hutton organised the night and continues to work very hard which is hugely appreciated by everyone at the Colliers.

Ross had the following to say about the night: “Our club has a fantastic community feel to it and the number of parents and players who came up to me on the night to tell me how much fun they were having made it very worthwhile.”

“At most events like this most people keep to their own wee group but everyone mingled and socialised really well.

“Thank you to Blantyre Miners Welfare for providing a terrific venue.”
