Big win for Div 3 Men as they crush the Cougars

Collier’s vs Chryston Cougars

SLBA Men’s Division 3

April 5th, 2015 @ the Alistair McCoist Complex

A strong performance from the Colliers saw them gain a victory in their last game of the season over the Chryston Cougars at the Alistair McCoist Complex on Sunday.

After a slow start from both teams, the Colliers managed to put together a strong offensive performance that demonstrated their ability to put into place all of the things they’ve been working on this season. The team showed their ability to score in transition, against man-to-man and half-court zone defence’s and showed they could make good decisions moving the ball to hit the open man.

Early injury scares to key players Lee Phillips and Jack Martin meant that other players had to step up and contribute and the team rallied to take the game to the opposition; with Craig Thomson coming off the bench to make a positive impact on the defensive end in particular.

Fortunately Jack and Lee returned in the second half and showed how important they can be to the team on offence and defence. Quality shot making and finishing from Will Yuil, Jack McLean and leading scorer Graham Arrol meant the team’s good play was productive and had an impact on the score sheet. In the backcourt James Wright and Kieran Kelly contributed their usual, excellent on ball defence and moved the ball and made shots to chip in on offence too.

Final Score: SL Colliers 69 - 49 Chryston Cougars

Coach Derek Milligan: “I was really pleased to finish this season with a game like this.”

“After last season where we were just 'getting our feet wet' as a team, we’ve spent a lot of time this season focusing on how we can play as a team on offence and defence - and how each individual contributes to the success of our system.

“We’ve shown we can put together strong defensive performances and adapt that to the teams we play and that the style we want to play on offence can work and be effective.

“We’ve laid a great foundation for next season where, to take another step, we’ll need to be able to play to our best consistently as a team.

“I’m looking forward to working with the guys over the summer and have confidence that they’ll be training hard to develop their games and the way they can contribute to the overall success of the team going forward.”
