Colliers men secure place in Final

SL Colliers vs Ayrshire Tornadoes

Anderson Cup

February 21st, 2016 - The Colliers showed up to Dalry Primary on Sunday afternoon ready to go after two weeks of training preparation for the game.

From the tip the Colliers took control of the game led by tough team defence and dominant scoring by Michael Lynn and Alex Dobbie winning the first quarter 28-12.

The second quarter however was a completely different Colliers as they began to look tired, perhaps from Friday nights game against Glasgow City. Despite every effort and the much needed lift Yann Siewe provided the Colliers trailed the quarter 20-11 finishing the half up 39-32.

In the third the Colliers again did not look like the same team from the first quarter as they trailed the third quarter 16-8 which gave Ayrshire the edge as they took the lead going up 48-47.

The fourth quarter saw an energised focused Colliers led by Alex Dobbie who scored 12 points in the final quarter. The Colliers showed resilience as they never gave up and continued to fight until they took the lead back and won the game.

Alex Dobbie and Michael Lynn top scored the game with 22 points each.

FINAL SCORE:   SL Colliers 67 – 62 Ayrshire Tornadoes

Alex Dobbie commented: “it was a great result for us, we ran out to a big lead to start the game but lost concentration in the second allowing Ayrshire to get back in the game.”

“Towards the end of the game though some great D from the guys and some clutch free throw shooting allowed us to seal the win.”

“We look forward now to a matchup against Storm in the final and with every game we are playing together we are getting better as a team.

“Although they are a strong side if we keep playing as well as we know we can then we should go into the game with real confidence.”

The Division 1 men’s next game will take place on Wednesday the 23rd of February at the Alistair McCoist Complex (8:15pm tip off) against the Ayrshire Tornadoes. The cup final is scheduled to take place in April, the date is still to be confirmed.
