SL Colliers vs Ayrshire Tornadoes

Strathclyde Basketball League Division 1

February 24th, 2016 - The Colliers faced the Ayrshire Tornadoes on Wednesday night for the third time of the season and just after putting them out of the Anderson Cup 3 days previous.

The Colliers got off to a slow start despite 11 first quarter points by Michael Lynn finishing off the first trailing 15-19.

The second quarter saw a different approach from the Colliers defensively as they took control of the game led by a hot streak of shooting from Ross Rankin winning the quarter 17-11 which put the Colliers ahead 32-30 finishing the half.

The Colliers continued their good form in the third as Alex Dobbie scored 7 early points, supported by Rankin and Graham Hunter winning the third 13-10.

The fourth quarter did not disappoint the supporters as both sides fought it out led by dominant scoring by Rankin and Lynn. The game came down to the last shot as Ayrshire ran an out of bounds play to attempt to get one last shot and to attempt to win the game however Hunter managed to tip the ball which fell short as the buzzer sounded seeing the Colliers win their 8th game of the season.

Michael Lynn top scored the game with 25 points followed by Ross Rankin with 17 points.

FINAL SCORE:   SL Colliers 63 – 62 Ayrshire Tornadoes

Michael Lynn commented: “As a team we had lapses in concentration which made it difficult to execute at times, but that aside I’m absolutely delighted that we got the win tonight.”

The Division 1 men’s next game will take place on Wednesday the 2nd of March at Renfrew Leisure Centre (7:45pm tip off) against the WCS Buddies.
