South Lanarkshire Colliers v Glasgow City
SLBA Senior Men Division 1
East Bank Academy, 14th November 2014
After a slow start to the season for the Colliers they came out slow as expected with Glasgow City starting off hot from the three-point line. It wasn’t until the end of the quarter the Colliers started to show they were there to win trailing at the end of the first 29-17 to Glasgow.
The Colliers came out in the second quarter playing great team basketball and hard defence seeing each player on the floor score. Michael Lynn showed he had his touch back in side getting to the basket strong with three big dunks! The half ended with the Colliers leading 45-42.
The third was very competitive from both teams however strong play to the basket from Darren Sharp and hot outside shooting from Graham Hunter and Ross Rankin saw the Colliers win the quarter.
The Colliers got into foul trouble early in the game, which played a role defensively in the fourth quarter seeing Michael Lynn, sit out most of the quarter. City did a great job getting to the basket and remained to shoot well from the three.
City took a short lead towards the end of the game however two more three pointers from Graham Hunter and strong finishes to the basket by Darren Sharp made it to hard a task for City to recover.
Michael Lynn top scored the game with 24 points, followed by Graham Hunter with 22 points, Darren Sharp with 16 also and Ross Rankin with 14 points.
Player/Coach Graham Hunter added: “This was a great team win for us, everyone on the team did a job! We’ve had a slow start and finally looking like we are on the same page.”
Final score: SL Colliers 84 - 82 Glasgow City
The Colliers now look forward in preparation for the next game against Calderglen Spartans in the second round of the Anderson Cup.
