Anderson Cup Quarter Final Success
February 26th, 2016 – the game started off with Oatlands opening the scoring and building a small lead with the visiting Colliers unable to get going offensively or defensively.
Throughout the first half the Colliers played in spurts showing they were the stronger team however mental lapses led to blowing any momentum gathered seeing Oatlands finishing the first half in the lead.
The second half saw a different Colliers approach however still not quite the level the team are capable of.
The Colliers defence got them back into the game stopping offensive opportunities for Oatlands which led to Colliers bringing the scores level. With seconds left in the game Oatlands had the chance to win with the last shot however the Colliers defence was excellent which led to an interception from Ross Rankin forcing the game to overtime.
With solid free throw shooting and fast breaks saw the Colliers take the games momentum. Michael Lynn continued to be unstoppable on offence which they had no answer for.
With 2 minutes left Graham Hunter scored 2 free throws which put the Colliers just 1 point away from levelling the score again. Great defence led to two fast break layups by Aarron Mitchinson which put the Colliers up by 3 to win the game.
Michael Lynn top scored the game with 20 points followed by Aarron Mitchinson with 16, Graham Hunter with 15 and Ross Rankin added 12.
FINAL SCORE: SL Colliers 75 – Oatlands 72
Player/Coach Graham Hunter commented: “it was a hard game for us, we really didn’t play well at all as a team.”
“Oatlands played a very physical game which served them well to push us to overtime, we showed good character at the end of the 4th and in overtime to pull out the win.”
“We will definitely build on this and use the next two weeks to again improve looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
