Div 1 Men show great composure to secure win in Ayrshire
December 6th, 2015 - The Div 1 men travelled to Dalry Primary School in Ayrshire over the weekend to face the newly formed Ayrshire Tornadoes which brought together Troon Tornadoes and Stevenson Sabres to form a very strong squad.
The Colliers came out on fire lighting it up from behind the 3-point arc by Graham Hunter and Ross Rankin with solid attacks to the basket by Alex Dobbie. The Colliers defence was also very tough as they finishing the first quarter 26-18.
The Colliers began to look tired in the 2nd as guard Jay Runga went out the game playing through a cold. Mike Lynn checked in giving a much needed boost supported by hard nose defence from Chris Davidson. Despite losing the quarter by 2 points the Colliers finished the half up 41-35.
The Colliers came out in the second half flat struggling to get going offensively trailing the quarter 15-10.
The 4th started off 50 – 51 to the Colliers and midway through the quarter the Tornadoes took the lead for the first time in the game. There was a clear momentum shift as the Colliers battled to stay in the game.
With just under three minutes left Dobbie drove the basket opening up a scoring run for the Colliers followed by a huge dunk from Lynn. Rankin and Dobbie both had trips to the three throw line in the last 2 minutes scoring them all, pulling out a convincing win.
Alex Dobbie and Ross Rankin top scored the game with 20 points each followed by Graham Hunter and Mike Lynn who also both added 11.
FINAL SCORE: SL Colliers 69 – 62 Ayrshire Tornadoes
Head Coach Graham Hunter commented: “This was a good win for us, we haven’t had the best last two weeks of training due to work commitments.”
“We came out really strong and shooting the ball really well as a team, our defence was also excellent, however in the third we let it slip and lost the lead.”
“The team should great composure as we held it together to take control of the game and secure the win.”
The Division 1 men’s next game will take place on the 20th of January at the Alistair McCoist Complex in East Kilbride, 8:15pm tip off.
