Glasgow Fever U14 Girls Tournament

September 12th, 2015

With their second tournament in the space of a week, the Colliers U14 girls were ready to go for all four games on Sunday at Notre Dame High in Glasgow.

Straight from the tip off, the girls dominated a young Glasgow Fever team and showed their experience by storming off to a big lead early on and put on a display of some outstanding basketball to win 58-10.

Their second opponent, West Lothian Wolves put up more of a fight early on but the Colliers stepped up a gear and went into the half up 32-15.

The second half showed improved communication on defence as well as  positioning on offence. In the end the Colliers won 50-29.

Portlethen Panthers were up next and despite dominating the game the Colliers girls couldn’t find their form on offence and the lead was just 10 points at half time. Again, the Colliers found another gear and stamped their authority on the game through some stifling defence and won 31-16.

The last game of the day was the final against City of Edinburgh Kats. The Colliers got off to their usual fast paced high tempo start which took the wind out the Kats sails. In the end, the Colliers sailed to a 50-24 to clinch the title of tournament champions and their second in a week.

Coach Ross Hutton commneted: “I am really pleased that our younger players have had an opportunity to play so many games before our season starts."

"The work the girls are doing in practice is paying off and they know that their defence is what is separating them from other teams, it’s up to them to keep up this kind of form and intensity going all season.”
