SL Colliers vs Highland Bears
October 23rd, 2016
Under 18 Men National League Division 2
The Under 18 South Lanarkshire Colliers squad hosted the Highland Bears from Inverness with both teams unable to bring a large squad. The Bear’s started strong using their full court press to good effect forcing the game to be scrappy and rushed allowing them to lead at the end of the 1st quarter 18-15.
Coming out in the second the Colliers aim was to pass through the press and create fast break scoring opportunities, this led to the Bears running out of energy due to the constant press. This allowed the Colliers to control the quarter and win it 32-13. Half time score Colliers 47 Bears 31.
The second half opened with the Colliers looking to press the now tired Bears team making steel after steel pulling the lead out to 20 points within a minute or so.
The Colliers ran the bench and the supporting cast didn’t disappoint increasing the lead and winning the quarter 28-19.
Moving into the final quarter and the Colliers were rotating their players well keeping fresh legs on court at all times winning the quarter 28-15 to finish with 103 points on the board.
FINAL SCORE: SL Colliers 103 Highland Bears 65
The Under 14s Coach James Ritchie filled in on the day for Head Coach Jack Mclean. James commented: “the guys did great today, we could have rebounded better early on but we worked our way into the game with great ball movement and spacing.”
“Princes passing was immense along with Chris, Callum and Alexander spreading the floor allowing Ciaran to score 46 points!”
“The rotation players Ross, Zack and Jordan all played a supporting role in a good win.”
The Div 2 Men’s next will be against the Glasgow Rocks on the 5th of November at the Alistair McCoist Complex in East Kilbride.
