Setting the new standard for South Lanarkshire Basketball

Four young Colliers have been selected to play for Scotland after continuing to impress their coaches and national coaches in their games, the future Starz programme and national team trials.

Laura Thomson from East Kilbride has been selected to play for the under 13s squad who prepare to travel to the TIM Pirineus Tournament in Andorra taking place from the 1st to the 3rd May 2015.

Laura’s Colliers coach Ross Hutton commented that:  “I was delighted when I heard that Laura had been selected again to represent Scotland.”

“Laura had a successful year in both the U14 WRDL and the U16 division two National League where the team got to the final of the play-offs against the odds only to lose out to Stirling.

“Laura played a vital role in the success of the season and to finish 3rd in the U14 WRDL is a massive improvement on the 7th place they managed the year before.

“Playing so many games and being exposed to so much basketball has helped Laura improve.”

We caught up with Laura to discuss her selection for the squad and she commented: “it feels really good to be selected again and I'm really excited to be going back to Andorra.”

“I think I've improved a lot with my dribbling and shooting technique, I would like to continue to improve and get selected for the u14 Scotland squad next year."

Laura said her favourite memories so far in basketball are, “making friends and what I have achieved so far.”
