Optimistic Loss for the U14 Boys

December 10th, 2016 - The South Lanarkshire Colliers U14 boys hosted Glasgow Rens at St Andrews & St Brides High School in the first meeting between the 2 clubs in the under 14 Strathclyde Basketball league.

Immediately it was apparent that this was going to be a tough game with the sheer physical size of the Glasgow Rens team that included a player at 6’4.

Regardless the Colliers were confident as we have had a height disadvantage all season. The Colliers decided to try a fast paced passing game to work around the height which seemed to work well although we were limited to one shot per offence as winning a rebound was nearly impossible the first half ended with Rens up 41-14.

In the second half, the Colliers opted to put more pressure on the ball handler and prevent the first shot so they could minimise the rebounding chances for Rens which worked well.

On offence the under 14 boys opted to move the ball and make the defence move creating more high percentage chances only losing the half by 6 points .

FINAL SCORE:   SL Colliers 32 Glasgow Rens 68

Head Coach James Ritchie said “I love coaching this group of players, they never let their heads drop, they remain confident and give 100% all the time which is all I can ask for.”

“It’s easy to get disheartened when you lose but I prefer to see the positives, we as a team played some very good basketball at both ends of the court and through this loss we know what we need to focus on in training which is a good thing.”

Next up for the U14 boys is an away game against Glasgow Rocks 24th January 2017 at Anniesland College in Glasgow.
