Scotland Team Selection for Young Colliers

For any club, having players selected to represent their country is an outstanding achievement and one which they will remember their whole life. Five Colliers under 12 players (Katie Burn, Carla Crowther, Laura Thompson, Tom Milligan and Shaun Thomas) successfully booked their place in their respective national team development squad earlier this year.

Tom and Shaun are no strangers to National Team duty as the represented the Scotland U11 squad last year, and to make the U12 squad shows how much they have continued to work on their game and perform at a high level.

Laura Thompson joined the Colliers much later and only started playing basketball in January as a result of the Future Clubz programme-taking place in her school. Laura was invited along to the last part of the Future Starz programme which was a basketball camp in Glenrothes.

Club Development Officer and U12 Head Coach Ross Hutton commented, “When I heard the news I was over the moon and felt so proud that so many of our players were selected. Back in September when I ran the U12 girls trials I could see that Katie and Carla had potential and nominated them to take part in the future starz programme.

“Both Shaun and Tom have really impressed this season with their work ethic and growth of their understanding of the game. They are dedicated and an absolute pleasure to work with.

“For such a late starter, Laura has immersed herself in basketball. She looks like a basketball player not only because of her height, but the way she plays on the court. With her drive and determination, I can see her getting so much better and achieving great things. To have three girls in the squad is amazing and this will undoubtedly spread throughout the rest of the team for the season to come.

"The Scotland U12 Boys and Girls will take part in the TIM Pirineus Tournament in Andorra from the 1st to the 4th of May. Everyone at the Colliers wishes them all the best!"

“This is a fantastic achievement for the young players and excellent for the club in our first year, this is exactly why we started the club to provide these kinds of opportunities to take place. Superb from the five of them and our D.O Ross Hutton,” Founder & Chairperson, Graham Hunter.
