SW Colliers vs Renfrew Rocks

November 20th, 2014 @ Trinity HS, Renfrew

SLBA Senior Woman

Final Score: SL Colliers 84 - 31 Renfrew Rocks

The Colliers senior woman travelled to Trinity High School in Renfrewshire on Thursday 20th of November to play the Renfrew Rocks. It was the first away game of the season and due to other commitments the Colliers travelled with only 6 players. However the Colliers were focused looking to continue their unbeaten run.

In the first quarter the Colliers started the game with their usual fast paced play and took a commanding lead early through team captain Alison McCusker and guard Rhona Mitchell. The Rocks struggled to get going and as a result the first quarter ended with the Colliers leading 23-4.

The second quarter saw much of the same as the Colliers looked to increase their lead. Gemma Kelly and Jill Ferguson did a great job defensively, stopping penetration into the Colliers zone. The Rocks started to fight back through good team play, which helped them, gain a further 8 points during the quarter but the Colliers were just too quick on the break and stretched their lead to 32 points by the end of the half.

The second half started off just like the previous two quarters with the Colliers dominating at both ends of the floor. Jennifer Lynn did a great job rebounding and not allowing the Rocks any second chance opportunities and starting the Colliers fast break.

With a comfortable 66-19 lead going into the fourth quarter the Colliers were never in danger of losing the game. However the Rocks didn’t give up and managed to score 12 points. The Colliers focused more on ball movement than scoring and managed to extend their lead to 53 points.

Alison McCusker top scored the game with 27 points, followed by Claire Brunton  with 21 and Rhona Mitchell with 18.
