SL Colliers vs Glasgow Eagles
SLBA Senior Woman
October 5th, 2014
Final Score: SL Colliers 74 - 57 Glasgow Eagles
The Colliers Senior Women's team hosted the Glasgow Eagles for their season opener on Sunday putting their pre-season work into practice. The women got off to a fast and aggressive start in the first quarter with good defensive pressure which led to easy transition points and a comfortable 18-3 lead by the end of the quarter.
The Colliers kept up their defensive pressure in the second quarter with great effort shown from the bench players when they came in the game. Showing good patience on offence helped keep the lead to 14 points going in to the half. Half time score ended at SL Colliers 39 - 25 Glasgow Eagles.
The second half saw the Eagles increase their defensive effort and go on a run that the Colliers struggled to stop. Taking advantage of the Colliers foul trouble, the Eagles put the ball inside ad took full advantage. This allowed the Eagles to claw their way back into the game by the end of the third quarter with the Colliers only leading by 5.
In the fourth quarter the Colliers regained their momentum through tough defensive pressure and quick transition basketball which saw the lead stretch out and the Colliers collecting their first win of the new season.
Head Coach Ross Rankin commented: "This was a great start to the season for us, the score line might make it seem like this game was one sided but that certainly wasn't the case. The eagles gave us a good challenge and at the end of the third quarter the game was anyone's to take. In the fourth quarter the girls kept their composure, stuck together and came away with the win."
Top Scorers for the Colliers were Alison McCusker with 25 points and Rhona Mitchell with 19 points.
