SL Colliers Under 14 Boys vs St Mirren

Strathclyde U14 League

October 24th, 2015

The Colliers Under 14 Boys hosted a strong St Mirren team in their first game of their season. Missing a couple of players, the Colliers weren't at full strength but that didn’t deter them. Showing how much they have improved since their last outing the Colliers spread the floor well maintaining their spacing and looking for scoring opportunities.

Unfortunately, St Mirren were playing well on defence and their ability to score proved hard for the Colliers. At the offensive end of the court St Mirren found the basket but the young Colliers made them work for every point they made with tenacious defence not giving St Mirren time to get into a rhythm. The Colliers trailed 7-29 at the half.

In the second half the Colliers constant defensive pressure forced more errors from St Mirren forcing them to make bad full court passes that the Colliers picked off time and time again. The Colliers also had more luck on offence in the second half with Scott Harrison finding form top scoring the game with 13 points.

FINAL SCORE:   SL Colliers 21 - St Mirren 52

Coach James Ritchie said:  The boys defensive pressure was fantastic today only St Mirren’s experience helped them win as most other teams wouldn’t have been able to deal with it.”

“All the boys deserve a massive pat on the back for their effort I couldn’t be more proud of them.

“If this is a sign of the team’s work ethic, this season is going to be awesome.”

Up next for the U14 Colliers Boys is an away game against Ayr Storm on 21st November 2015 with the next home game being against Clyde Cavaliers 5th December 2015.
