Under 14 Boy's get the Win in Ayr
16th January 2016 - the U14 Boys took a 40 mile trip to Ayr for their first game of the new year. The Colliers anticipated a tough game going by both team’s previous results.
Coach Ritchie opted to use the game to work on the Colliers full court press for the first time. The boys started well, scoring the first basket of the game but Ayr were up to the challenge and responded with baskets of their own and kept the game close with the Colliers keeping a narrow lead throughout the first half, seeing the score end Storm 18 Colliers 22.
In the second half the Colliers pressure defense led to easier baskets trapping the ball of the inbound passes. Squad rotations kept fresh legs on the court and the lead soon became 10 points at which point the Colliers dropped back to play half court defence.
The Colliers saw the game out with every player getting into the game and making a contribution.
FINAL SCORE: SL Colliers 48 Ayr Storm 35
Coach Ritchie added: “this game was a great confidence boost for the boys especially giving away a height advantage.”
“The boys worked incredibly hard on defence and that set up good opportunities on the offensive end.”
Up next for the U14 Boys is an away game against Clyde Cavaliers at St.Columbas High School on the 24th of January, 11am tip off.
