Colliers Girls advance to Cup Semi Final
U14 Scottish Cup Quarter Final
31st January 2016 - the Colliers under 14 girls added another win to their undefeated record (25-0) on Sunday as they advanced to the semi finals of the Scottish Cup with a win over Fraserburgh Storm. The girls got off to a great start with a quick 6-0 lead and despite some tough full court defence from Storm they couldn’t make an impact in the game. With only 40 seconds left in the first quarter the Colliers defence let slip and Storm scored two quick lay-ups to take the score to 10-5 to Colliers.
In the second quarter, the Colliers stepped up a gear and pulled away to a 14-point lead early on through some great defence by Abigail Paterson and Katie McGee and finishing from five different players. This run of strong play ensured the Colliers were in a commanding position going into the second half with the Colliers leading 25-9.
Laura Thomson started the 3rd quarter with an explosive offensive display which really took the wind out of Storm’s sails as she scored the first 11 points for the Colliers opening up an even bigger lead. Coach Hutton ran the bench giving the younger Colliers players some valuable court time and experience.
With a 24-point lead going into the final quarter the focus was to maintain the lead and execute screens effectively. U13 players Jorja Boyd, Allison Campbell and Georgie Gupwell were on fine form as they worked hard at both ends of the floor to keep the lead, and through a couple of nice lay ups from Georgie the Colliers ended up with a 23-point win.
Laura Thomson top scored with 16 points followed by Katie Burn with 14 and Carla Crowther added 8.

Head Coach Ross Hutton commented: “Being undefeated in all under 14 competitions at this stage of the season is rewarding and testament to how hard the girls have worked.”

“It was great to travel all the way up there and get a win.
“We meet Falkirk Fury in the semi finals and the girls know this will be a tougher challenge but we are ready for anything.“
