Colliers U16 girls kick off their pre-season with a win against Fury

SL Colliers vs. Sony Falkirk Fury

August 31st 2015

U16 girl’s pre-season friendly

The Colliers got off to a blistering start and set the tempo of the game at a fast pace. Playing well as a team on defence, Fury found it hard to score and with a big height advantage Colliers dominated the rebounds and attacked strong down the floor.

The Colliers strong start helped them set a lead of 15-2 at the end of the quarter and they managed to continue the good run of form into the half leading 34-10.

Making sure all players got time on the court coach Hutton remarked said: “the emphasis was playing as a team, moving the ball and having good spacing.”

“We still have a lot to improve on but I was happy with the intensity and effort mainly on defence in the first half but wanted to see better ball movement and strong cuts to the hoop.”

The Colliers worked hard to execute what their coach wanted from them and displayed some really nice basketball in the second half.

Valentina Palli top scored for the Colliers with 20 impressive points followed by Carla Crowther adding 14.

FINAL SCORE:   SL Colliers 53 Sony Falkirk Fury 37

Head Coach Ross Hutton commented: “I am happy with the way we played and I’m excited about playing division one basketball this year.”

“It’s going to be a challenge but after working with these girls for two years now I know they are more than capable.“

The Collier U14 girls (who make up all but 3 of the U16 team) are competing in a three-team tournament on Sunday in Bathgate, and soon after, they embark on their first division one National League game (Sept 20th V Ayr Storm).
