U16 Boys Triumph in league Opener

U16 Men @ Kyle Academy, Ayr

October 1st, 2015

A rocky start allowed Ayr Storm to form a solid 11-2 lead however the Colliers battled back with strong defensive sets which allowed for quick counter attacks and easy points. The game soon settled however rustiness from both sides caused a lot of turnovers in possession and made it difficult for either team to get in a flow.

The Colliers trailed at the half 41-36 despite strong scoring from Christopher Duncan and Andrew Lamb.

The second half was a different story! The Colliers ran a full court defensive press as well as playing as a team allowed them to overpower Ayr.

The Colliers took the lead by 15 with ten minutes to go and never looked back, with 5 players all scoring ten points or more.

FINAL SCORE:   SL Colliers 84 Ayr Storm 70

New Coach Ian Rae was delighted to start the season on a high commenting: "I'm so proud of all the boys after today's win, they've been working so hard in training and so it's great to see all that effort be rewarded.”

“I'm particularly pleased with the genuine friendship and unity within the team.

“They all contributed to this win in some way and everyone cheering and pushing one another on was great to see.

“I want to thank all the mums and dad who came to support and produce such a large turnout considering the travel involved.

“We still have a lot to work on but this is a solid foundation to build from."

The U16’s next game is against the Renfrew Rocks, 5th November 7:15pm at John Ogilvie high school. All support welcome!
