SL Colliers Vs S.P.R.A

March 16th, 2015 @ Jackton Police College

SLBA Senior Women

With the league secured the Colliers now looked to go unbeaten for the season, which is a huge achievement for a team that only formed 2 years ago.

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively in the first quarter with Alison McCusker finally putting the Colliers on the scoreboard after 2 minutes of play. With a score of 10-4 to the Colliers at the end of the first quarter it looked like this game would be won on the defensive end.

The second quarter was much like the first, defence was the focus for both teams and neither really managed to get going offensively. The Colliers did a great job of contesting shots and rebounding the ball however a few mental lapses allowed S.P.R.A. to close the gap to just 3 points by half time with a score of Colliers 16 - 13 S.P.R.A.

After a half time talk from assistant coach Darren Sharp the Colliers came out focused & determined to play better. Alison Mitchell was rewarded for her aggressive play scoring 9 of the teams 16 points of the quarter from the free throw line. This helped the Colliers to stretch their lead to 14 points.

In the final quarter S.P.R.A. looked to be more aggressive on offence trying to claw back some of the Colliers lead. S.P.R.A point guard Kirsty Semple scored 8 of her 9 points down the stretch but 2 big 3 pointers from Alison McCusker and some fast break layups from Rhona Mitchell sealed the win and the unbeaten season for the Colliers.

Final Score: SL Colliers 44 - 30 S.P.R.A

Head Coach Ross Rankin commented: "tonight's game was tough for us. S.P.R.A. have a very talented squad that gave us a close game the last time we played and again tonight.“

“It was a low scoring game that really tested our defence. We now have to focus our efforts on the cup final against Fever.

“This will be our toughest challenge so I would like to encourage everyone to come along and show their support."
